On Thursday, Delhi Capitals announced Australian opener David Warner as their new skipper in the absence of injured Rishabh Pant and India’s star performer of recently concluded BGT 2023 Axar Patel as the vice-captain for the upcoming IPL 2023 edition.
On Thursday, Delhi Capitals took to their Instagram and posted, “All set to roar loud this IPL 2023 under the leadership of these two dynamic southpaws.”
Head coach Ricky Ponting and the team management have reached an agreement that the Aussie star is the best man to lead the side on an interim basis as Pant gradually recovers after surviving a horrific car crash in December.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Axar Patel has been named the team’s Vice Captain. The franchise also announced former India captain Sourav Ganguly as the franchise’s Director of Cricket. Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals in the past too, in the role of mentor, during the 2019 season.
After being appointed as the skipper of Delhi Capitals for Indian Premier League 2023, star Australian opener David Warner said the team will miss wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, terming him a terrific leader, while expressing his excitement about leading the team in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league.
This will be the second time Warner leads the Capitals. In his previous stint with the franchise from 2009 and 2013, he led the side in a couple of matches. The opener was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 and in 2016, he led the side to their maiden title.
