Amritpal Singh, the leader of “Waris Punjab De,” has been sent to the Assam prison of Dibrugarh under heavy supervision.Singh was taken into custody by the police early on Sunday morning in the Punjabi district of Moga, and in the afternoon he was flown to Dibrugarh Airport in Assam. He has since been moved to a prison in Dibrugarh, according to officials.Assam’s security has reportedly been increased, according to officials.

Since March 18, when the Punjab Police began a huge manhunt for him, Amritpal Singh has been evading capture.According to officials, the extremist preacher Amritpal Singh’s other accomplices as well as a supporter of Khalistan are also detained at the Dibrugarh jail.On April 11, a close associate of the wanted Khalistan commander, Papalpreet Singh, was transferred to Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail.

Earlier in March, pro-Khalistan supporters and associates of Amritpal Singh were shifted out of Punjab after Central Intelligence agencies raised concerns over possible jailbreak and repeat of the Ajnala incident.Earlier in the day, the Punjab IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that National Security Act (NSA) warrants were issued against Amritpal Singh and those warrants have been executed this morning.

“NSA warrants were issued against Amritpal Singh and those warrants have been executed today morning…Amritpal Singh has been arrested by Punjab Police around 6.45 am today morning in the village Rode,” Gill said.He said that the Khalistan sympathiser and radical preacher was arrested in a joint operation by Punjab police and the intelligence wing.
“Amritpal Singh has been sent to Dibrugarh, Assam and further action will be taken as per law and order in the case. A warning has been issued against those elements trying to jeopardise the peace and harmony of the state,” he said.
