Russia overnight launched airstrikes against Kyiv, with Ukraine’s air defense forces engaging the threat, officials said late Monday. The attack was confirmed by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram, with him saying that air defense forces were actively engaging the threat in the city’s skies.
People said they heard large explosions in the capital and outlying areas, with witnesses describing the sound of interceptions akin to air defense interceptions.
The attack took place just before Ukraine and US officials met in Saudi Arabia for decisive negotiations aimed at significantly advancing to the end of the war that is ongoing.
Ukraine has been having a growing dependency on its aerial defenses to deter the Russian aerial attacks, which have intensified in the last several months. The newest attack further attests to Kyiv’s longstanding threats that prevail despite continuous attempts to terminate the war diplomatically.
