Russia announced on Sunday that its forces had seized control of the eastern Ukrainian town of Velyka Novosilka in the contested Donetsk region, marking another milestone nearly three years into the ongoing conflict.
According to Moscow’s defense ministry, Russian troops carried out “active offensive actions” to “liberate the settlement of Velyka Novosilka,” situated in the western part of Donetsk. The region has been a focal point of intense fighting as Russia continues its gradual advances in eastern Ukraine.
