Israel Intercepts Houthi Missile, No Casualties Reported

Israel successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Tuesday, December 24. The missile, fired by Houthi rebels, was part of an Iran-backed group opposing Israel. Recently, the Houthis have stepped up their attacks on Israel. In fact, last Saturday, a missile attack in Tel Aviv injured 16 people.

Missile Intercepted Before Entering Israel

Fortunately, the Israeli military intercepted the missile before it could enter Israeli airspace. As a result, rocket and missile sirens sounded across the area.

The Israeli military stated: “Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago, a projectile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted prior to crossing into Israeli territory. Rocket and missile sirens were sounded following the possibility of falling shrapnel from the interception.”

No Casualties, But Some Injuries

Although there were no reported casualties from the missile attack, The Times of Israel reported that over 20 people were injured. They either hurt themselves while rushing to shelters or suffered anxiety during the sirens.

The Magen David Adom (MDA) service did not report any injuries from the missile or interception. However, they treated 25 people for falls or anxiety. Among them, a 60-year-old woman was seriously injured.

Netanyahu Warns of Stronger Response

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Houthis of an even stronger Israeli response. In response to Saturday’s attack, Israel carried out airstrikes in Yemen.

“I have instructed our forces to destroy the infrastructure of the Houthis, because anyone who tries to harm us will be struck with full force, even if it takes time,” Netanyahu said.
