Hamas announced on Thursday that it would continue with the execution of the ceasefire deal with Israel, such as the exchange of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli hostages, according to the agreed timetable.
A Hamas statement indicated that their delegation had been in negotiations with mediators in Cairo for the execution of the ceasefire deal. The discussions were centered on the prisoner-for-hostage exchange, as well as on ‘the successive Israeli violations’ of the agreement, as described by Hamas.
The negotiations underscored the immediate necessity of providing housing for Gazans, the importation of prefabricated houses, medicine, fuel, and other relief, as provided in the agreement. Egypt and Qatar’s negotiators reaffirmed their dedication to overcoming any impediments to ensure complete implementation.
Hamas previously announced a postponement of the hostage handover initially scheduled for Saturday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted by saying that Israel would return to “intense fighting” if Hamas failed to honor the deadline, without giving a number of hostages to be freed.
In response, U.S. President Donald Trump asked Israel to cancel the deal outright and warned that he would ‘let hell break out’ if it didn’t release all the hostages by noon Saturday.
