The Volkswagen Tiguan is back in India. The updated Tiguan made its global debut in 2020 and one year later the 5-seater SUV has made its way to India. The car is part of 4 new SUVs German giant had committed for India for this calendar year and is the final launch in the series. The new Taigun, Tiguan Allspace and T-Roc were already launched in the market earlier in the year. The new Tiguan gets a single variant called Elegance which is priced at Rs. 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The car gets a new design and an updated feature list.
LOOKS
The new Tiguan comes equipped with a muscular designed bumper with piano black finish inserts and a broad radiator grille that envelopes the new Volkswagen logo in the centre. The SUV gets LED matrix headlights featuring an intelligent and adaptive IQ. The light according to VW has a more commanding on-road stance. This vehicle lighting system is made of 24 individual LEDs that will guide the driver better through the dark. It has a dynamic and advanced front lighting system (AFS) with range control, cornering light and poor weather light that provides specially configured light beams. It adapts the lighting in front of the vehicle to various driving situations by changing the geometry of the headlight beam.
The car also gets dark LED combination tail lamps at the rear, and the tail-light cluster includes a switch function for the LEDs when braking, called the “click-clack” effect. The Tiguan also gets 18-inch frankfurt design alloy wheels. In all, there are 7 colour options to choose from – nightshade blue, pure white, oryx white with pearl effect, deep black, dolphin gray, reflex silver and kings red.
INTERIORS
The new Tiguan gets a multi-function display and digital cockpit while the reverse camera gives 4 different views. A 20.32cm touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control is there as well. The new Tiguan is fitted with illuminated scuff plates and USB C-ports, Vienna leather seats, a soft-touch dashboard, flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel and a three-zone climate control system with touch control. It also consists of 30 shades of multicolour ambient lights along with a panoramic sunroof. My Volkswagen Connect App on the SUV enables users to monitor their driving behaviour and usage patterns offer live tracking and apprise the user on safety and security features like Geo-fencing, Time-fencing and various other safety alert functions. It is enabled by a SIM-based dongle which ensures connectivity between the car and the user’s mobile device. The SUV gets a luggage space of 615 litres.
ENGINE
The Tiguan is being offered with just a Petrol engine option and an automatic gearbox. The much popular 2.0L TSI motor, seen in many VW group cars, is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission with 4MOTION technology that produces a peak power output of 190PS ranging from 4200-6000 rpm and a peak torque of 320 Nm right from 1500 rpm and flat up to 4100 rpm. Volkswagen says the Tiguan guarantees superior acceleration and fast pickup, ensuring an overall fun-to-drive experience. It offers ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 12.65 kmpl.
SAFETY
As expected from Volkswagen, the list of safety features on the new Tiguan is long. It is offered with 6 airbags, front and rear disc brakes, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), anti-slip regulation (ASR), electronic differential lock (EDL), EDTC – engine drag torque control, hill start assist, hill descent control, auto hold, 3 headrests at rear, 3- point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat mounts and driver alert system.
WARRANTY
The new Tiguan comes with VW’s 4EVER Care program that offers a four-year standard warranty extendable up to seven years, four-year Roadside assistance extendable up to 10-years and three free services. The four-year service value packs start at an introductory price of Rs. 63,558 which offers almost 23 percent savings along with an extended warranty that starts at Rs. 31,499. Bookings are now open for the SUV with deliveries beginning mid-January 2022 onwards. Prospective customers can test-drive the vehicle starting 10th of December in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune to be soon followed by other cities.
