Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has taken on the additional role of the state Director General of Police (DGP) following the retirement of Rajnish Seth on December 31. In October, the Maharashtra government had appointed Seth, a 1988 batch officer, as the chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has approved Seth’s appointment to the MPSC chairmanship. Now that Seth has retired, he is expected to assume his new responsibilities soon.
Seth, who served as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), was appointed as the DGP of Maharashtra in February 2022. Prior to this role, he also held the position of joint commissioner (law & order) in Mumbai city.
