In the era of the lockdown, work from home seems to have become the done-thing for most people. But what happens to those who are unable to keep their fitness regimen or their daily run since they are forced into being cooped up at home? Members of the Striders running club in Mumbai found out on Sunday that they could join others in a virtual run. On Facebook Live, VK Gandhi, one of the club’s senior-most runners, flagged off more than 2,896 runners from 25 states across the country and 12 countries for Go Corona Virtual Run.
This is the first time that Striders, an outdoor fitness and marathon training group, has organized a Virtual Run, keeping in mind how runners miss their fitness and running regime, how to make most of this lockdown, and contribute from the runners’ community to fight Covid-19. Each participant had to pay Rs 200 towards registration fee and the amount thus collected will be donated to the PM CARES FUND. The Striders club founders have also donated towards the registration for 100 kids in Deonar & Meghpar.
“Striders have always believed that exercise helps boost our mental state as well as our physical health. In the spirit of social distancing during this lockdown, this virtual event will help one get moving, without getting out,” said Deepak Londhe, the cofounder of Striders, whose training program is conducted by professional trainers at more than 60 locations in 18 cities across the country.
