Virat Kohli Equals Sachin Tendulkar’s Elite International Record In IND vs BAN Showdown

Senior Indian batter Virat Kohli has joined an exclusive club by reaching 12,000 runs in home conditions during the second innings against Bangladesh on Day 2 of the 1st Test in Chennai. Kohli is now the second player to achieve this milestone, following the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli reached the feat in his 219th match for India, having recently retired from T20I cricket. His 12,000+ runs at home have come at an impressive average of 58.84, including 38 centuries and 59 half-centuries. In comparison, Sachin Tendulkar retired with 14,192 home runs across 258 matches at an average of 50.32, with 42 centuries and 70 half-centuries to his name.

Kohli and Tendulkar are two iconic players who have dominated on home soil. Among current Indian players, Rohit Sharma comes the closest, although he is still over three and a half thousand runs behind Kohli.

At 35, Kohli is expected to continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup. After stepping away from T20I cricket following a match-winning innings against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, Kohli has remained in top form. His stellar performance in IPL 2024 and upcoming Test matches at home will likely add to his already legendary career before India heads to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
