In what serves as a humorous reminder to always lock your laptop at work, a Zomato employee learned the hard way when she became the target of a lighthearted prank. Niharika, a member of Zomato’s strategy team in Gurgaon, was left amused after her colleagues used her unlocked laptop to send a fake wedding announcement through her Slack account, leaving social media in stitches.
Niharika shared the incident on X (formerly Twitter), posting a screenshot of the prank message that had her colleagues laughing. “Never leave your laptop open at work,” she wrote, along with a screenshot of the message that her co-workers had sent out.
The message, pretending to be from Niharika, read, “Hey guys, sharing a life update, getting married in February. Please keep 5 PM free for a small brownie party.” The prank quickly went viral on social media, with the post garnering over 100,000 views and plenty of reactions from amused users.
Many on X found the prank hilarious, with some expressing envy over the fun and light-hearted work environment. Others shared their own experiences of similar pranks at their workplaces.
“Lol, this happened with me too! My colleagues even sent an email,” wrote Naresh Silla, an X user.
Another user, Veni Gupta, shared a relatable story, saying, “They used to do this at my first job too! It was a strategy to ensure we locked our laptops to protect client data. It worked well in shaping habits.”
One commenter offered a piece of advice: “Have fun… Make memories with them. Not all are blessed with a fun team!”
The prank has not only left social media users laughing but also serves as a cautionary tale for employees everywhere: always lock your devices when stepping away from your desk!
