A Bengaluru woman recently made waves on social media by humorously comparing the city’s notorious traffic to Russia’s 149-hour-long drive. The exchange began with a post on X, featuring a map and the caption: “You can drive for 149 hours across Russia and still be in Russia.”
In a witty reply, the woman quipped: “You can do that in Bangalore traffic too.”
Take a look at the post:
The humorous comparison struck a chord with many, amassing over one million views and thousands of likes and reshares. Bengaluru residents chimed in with their own anecdotes about enduring long commutes, agreeing with the lighthearted take on their daily struggles.
However, not all reactions were positive. Some users criticized the remark, finding it unnecessary. One person commented: “Not always the jokes are good, this attitude must stop. If that was the case, you could not have posted by sitting in a four-walled room. It’s not different from any other city, and bringing any Indian city into this by Indians is unwarranted.”
Many users came to Bengaluru’s defense, highlighting the city’s advantages over other global metropolises. A user remarked: “Bengaluru is way better than Paris, London, Dhaka, Jakarta.” Others pointed out that the city’s traffic is unfairly criticized, with one user arguing: “Why always degrade Bangalore? Did you travel in other cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Poona? Bengaluru traffic is much more controlled than any other city’s traffic. Good and check.”
Not everyone appreciated the humor, with some labeling the comparison as over the top. A user from Tamil Nadu challenged the claim, saying: “Okay, show me how you can drive for 149 hours and still be in Bengaluru. Such fringe, stale jokes should stop. You can drive even for 200 hours within any city.”
While some dismissed the joke as an “exaggeration,” the viral post has reignited debates around Bengaluru’s traffic reputation, offering both humor and criticism in equal measure.
