Rumeysa Gelgi, recognized as the world’s tallest woman, recently opened up about her unique experience of traveling by flight. In a video shared by Guinness World Records on Instagram, the 7 ft-tall woman revealed that she has to lie down during flights. The video captured Gelgi during her travels to the UK and the US.
While traveling with Turkish Airlines, Gelgi expressed her excitement in the video, saying, “I am literally so excited, my heart beats fast.”
The clip also showed Gelgi traveling on a stretcher, with the airline’s staff providing support. Turkish Airlines made her journey special by surprising her with a chocolate cake, which left her feeling overwhelmed and thrilled.
Tallest Women Can’t Sit And Travel
The world’s tallest woman revealed that she has scoliosis, an incurable condition where the spine forms a sideways curvature.
“Plus, I have 2 long rods and 30 screws in my spine, which prevent my spine from bending or twisting. So I always have to keep my back straight and flat. Flying on a stretcher is the safest – and only – option for me to travel by air,” she added.

Rumeysa Gelgi, the world’s tallest woman at 215.16 cm (7ft 0.71in), holds seven Guinness World Records. These include the titles for the largest hands (female), longest fingers (female), longest ears (female), and longest back (female). A resident of Turkey, Gelgi is also an activist, public speaker, and researcher who enjoys reading crime novels. A post shared by Guinness World Records read, “How does the world’s tallest woman travel and visit her friends? Turkish Airlines provided Rumeysa’s flight for her recent adventures to the US and UK,” which garnered praise for the airline.
