Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai expressed his pride on social media after a video from the World Aquatics Doha 2024 showcased the US artistic swimming team performing to AR Rahman’s iconic song “Taal Se Taal.” The original track, from the 1999 film “Taal,” featured Aishwarya Rai dancing and was sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan.

“I Feel Blessed”

Subhash Ghai took to X on Monday to share his excitement, tweeting, “RARELY IT HAPPENS WHEN A HINDI FILM THEME MUSIC LIKE TAAL BECOMES ICONIC.” The director of the film, which starred Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor, continued, “It was seen at World Aquatics Doha 2024, which inspired the USA ARTISTIC SWIMMING TEAM to display their unique performance on music of TAAL… I feel blessed… thank you all.”

The World Aquatics Championships 2024 took place between February 2-18 in Doha, with several athletes securing Paris 2024 Olympic quota spots for their countries.

Watch US Swimming Team Perform to ‘Taal Se Taal’

In a video shared by a fan page on Sunday, a group of female US swimmers showcased stunning synchronization underwater to the instrumental version of “Taal Se Taal.” The performance drew praise online, with one X user tweeting, “Taal Se Taal is perfect for any cultural event… AR Rahman truly is the face of Indian music.” Another user commented, “This is a proud moment for all Indians and definitely for Indian music…” However, some questioned the video’s authenticity, with one person writing, “This is a fake video, the Indian music has been added to it. It is edited, not original.”

About ‘Taal’

The musical drama “Taal,” directed by Subhash Ghai, featured Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles, with Amrish Puri and Alok Nath in supporting roles. The film was later dubbed in Tamil as “Thaalam.” “Taal” won multiple Filmfare Awards in 2000, with Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, Alka Yagnik, and Anand Bakshi each receiving accolades.

Subhash Ghai’s tweet celebrating the US team’s performance highlights the enduring global appeal of AR Rahman’s music and the film “Taal,” which continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
