Watch: German Ambassador To India Embraces EV, Celebrates With Traditional ‘Nimbu-Mirchi’ And Coconut Ritual

In a notable move, German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, has decided to use an electric vehicle (EV) as his official car in New Delhi. He did it while tying the symbolic “nimbu-mirchi” to the vehicle. Quoting him, he said, “We want to set examples of our commitment to sustainability, to whoever is holding a public office. The coconut smash is a traditional Indian ritual supposed to ward off evil and bring good luck.”.

The German ambassador goes down in history as one, who supports and encourages cleaner transport. Again, the rising popularity of electric vehicles in India because of their environmental benefits sees Ackermann change his vehicle. Once again, this shows the increased interest in the diplomatic corps for green solutions too.

Ackermann, through social media, shared a peek at the event, saying, “Just excited to switch to an electric vehicle as part of our efforts to embrace a more sustainable future. It’s great to blend our green initiatives with a touch of local tradition!”

That symbolic gesture of tying “nimbu-mirchi” and smashing a coconut has strong Indian roots said to bring good fortune not only to the person but also protect him/her from all kinds of negativities.
