Viral Strawberry-Egg Dish From Street Vendor Draws Online Criticism | Watch

The egg is known for its versatility, whether boiled, scrambled, baked, or cooked whole, making it a popular ingredient for experimentation. Social media often introduces us to various unique—and sometimes bizarre—ways to prepare this ingredient. Recently, a video showcasing an unconventional egg dish has left netizens both shocked and intrigued. The video features a street vendor preparing a strawberry-based egg dish presented inside a capsicum. Yes, you read that correctly!

In the viral video shared by digital content creator Mayank Patel (@tasty_street_food), the street vendor begins by heating oil in a pan and frying two whole, stemless, and seedless capsicums until they develop a crusty exterior. For the filling, he fries chopped onions, spring onions, strawberries, and egg yolks together. He then adds chaat masala, chopped tomatoes, and various spices, followed by grated cheese and mayonnaise. The mixture is cooked until it achieves a gravy-like consistency, which is then stuffed into the hollow capsicums.

But the process doesn’t stop there. The vendor cracks two eggs over each stuffed capsicum and lets them cook. Meanwhile, he prepares another masala mixture with oil, onions, capsicum, strawberries, egg yolks, spices, and chutneys. After cooking and mashing this mixture, he adds it on top of the raw eggs in the capsicum. To finish, he generously tops the capsicums with mayonnaise, strawberries, and garnishes them with coriander leaves.

The video has amassed 4.1 million views on Instagram, but the response has been mixed. Many viewers expressed their disapproval of this unusual experiment in the comments. One user remarked, “Justice for strawberry,” while another commented sarcastically, “Meney khaya hai best tha. Swarg se type kar raha hu” (I ate this, and it was the best. I am typing this from heaven). A third user wrote, “That simla mirch (capsicum) is holding pain,” and another said, “He cooked everything but the egg.” Two others questioned the dish’s purpose with, “Just 1 question, why??” and “Food poisoning calling.”
