Venice is like a page taken from a fairytale. From the country lanes and the old-fashioned bridges to the charm of the pale buildings, there's a blend of history and ocean air in the air. And maybe one of the big draws is the Grand Canal, which winds its way through the center of the Italian city. This 16-foot-deep waterway runs about 3 km longer than slightly, feeding off other canals.

Delhi Chief Minister Refers to Grand Canal as Nala

But guess what? Although the Grand Canal might be breathtaking, at the end of the day, it’s still a canal, as once pointed out by Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. During an interview, she asked the interviewees whether they had ever visited Venice. When they replied negatively, the CM revealed that she also hadn’t travelled to the city. However, it was her next statement that grabbed attention, as it was equally hilarious and true. Delhi CM Refers to Venice's Grand Canal as Just a 'Nala'

"Par woh river joh dikhti hai, aur uspe woh joh boat chalti hai, kya hai woh? Woh nadi hai? Woh bhi nala hai. (But that river you can see, and the one on which the boat floats, what is it? Is it a river? Well, it is also a nala," she said. Part of the video is now trending. The informal text arrangement read, "Venice nala hai (Venice is a canal)."

How Does the Internet Respond to Delhi CM's Comments?

The internet was having a field day responding to the clip, jokingly likening famous landmarks to household items. "Eiffel Tower kya hai? Bijli ka khamba hai. (What's the Eiffel Tower? It's an electricity pole," a user quipped. "Qutub Minar eent ka bhatta hai (Qutub Minar is a brick kiln)," added another. "Pyramid kya hai? Samosa hai bina chatni ka. (What's a pyramid? It's a samosa without chutney," a person wrote sarcastically. Quoting similarly, someone posted, "Taj Mahal kya hai? Ek qabar khana. What's the Taj Mahal? It's just a mausoleum." "Great Wall of China kya hai? Woh bhi deewar hai (What's the Great Wall of China? It's just a wall," went a similar comment.

They started to line up these canals with tightly packed wooden stakes. These waterproof alder wood were hammered deep into the sand and mud, coming to rest in the harder clay below. Lastly, wooden boards and stones were stacked on top of these stakes.

The wood survived the years because it was under oxygen-deprived saltwater, rendering it unsuitable for microorganisms to grow and rot. Gradually, the water's salt and other minerals penetrated into the wood, petrifying it to near stone hardness.
