Uttarakhand: Dentist Booked Under Arms Act For Celebrating “Pollution-Free” Diwali With Gunfire

Uttarakhand police have filed a case against a dentist for celebrating a “pollution-free” Diwali with gunfire. Dr. Aanchal Dhingra, based in Rudrapur, was booked under the Arms Act after she fired a licensed pistol into the air at her Gadarpur farmhouse and later shared the incident on social media, where it was reported to authorities.

Dr. Dhingra, a general dentist at Guru Maa Advanced Dental Care in Rudrapur, is married to businessman Abhimanyu Dhingra. She posted an Instagram video story showing herself celebrating with gunshots. In the clip, she is seen leaning against a Mahindra Thar and firing five shots into the sky.

A screengrab of Dr. Dhingra’s Diwali celebration caught the attention of the police, and it could potentially lead to the revocation of her gun license.

“Upon reviewing the video, we confirmed that Anchal had indeed discharged her pistol,” Rudrapur station house officer (SHO) Manoj Raturi said, according to a TOI report. “A case was registered against her under sections 27(1) and 30 of the Arms Act. We have also initiated the process to cancel the pistol licence. Further investigation is on.”

It remains unclear whether the firearm belonged to Dr. Dhingra or her husband. Regardless, her use of the gun violated the law, which prohibits discharging a weapon in public or for celebratory purposes.

In a tragic turn, Diwali celebrations in Delhi took a deadly twist when two members of a family were shot by assailants on a motorcycle. The victims of the Shahdara double-murder, Akash Sharma, 40, and his 16-year-old nephew, Rishabh, were lighting fireworks outside their home when the incident occurred, as captured in CCTV footage. Akash’s 13-year-old son was also injured in the attack.

The motive behind the killings is believed to be a dispute over a Rs. 70,000 debt. Police have arrested four juvenile suspects, including one identified as the main conspirator, and are still searching for the main shooter.
