UP Policeman Revives Baby Monkey With CPR Amid Severe Heatwave

Extreme heatwaves have gripped several northern regions of India, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, with temperatures soaring above 50 degrees Celsius. This intense heat has led to fatalities and illnesses among residents. However, amidst these challenging conditions, a heartwarming video from Bulandshahr, UP, has captured the attention of many online.

The video features a policeman’s act of heroism at the local police station, where he rescued a lifeless monkey that had fallen from a tree due to the scorching heat. The head constable, Vikas Tomar, was quick to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive the unconscious animal. Dr. Hari Om Sharma, a veterinarian, also provided antibiotics once the monkey regained consciousness.

In the video, Vikas Tomar is seen administering CPR to the monkey and pouring water on it to cool it down. He then helps the animal stand independently, and eventually, the monkey regains consciousness.

Explaining his actions, Vikas Tomar said, “We are trained to handle emergencies. Since the bodies of humans and monkeys are very similar, I tried to revive the monkey while my colleagues protected me from an agitated troupe. I pumped the chest for almost 45 minutes with intermittent rubbing and pouring little amounts of water into the mouth and finally it revived. The monkey comes to the police station daily and I’m happy to see him playing.”

SHO Bhoopendra Singh commented on the incident, stating, “Due to excessive heat, a monkey fell from a tree and fainted. Several monkeys had gathered around, and it was very hard to rescue the baby.” Dr. Hari Om Sharma added, “The monkey suffered a heat stroke and fainted due to dehydration. Timely help saved its life. After it became conscious, we administered an antibiotic.”

With the ongoing extreme weather conditions, people in affected areas are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities.
