A Mumbai man has gained attention for turning the tables on a digital scammer in an unusual and humorous way, using his puppy to outsmart a fraudster posing as a police officer. The incident, which unfolded in a video call, was shared on Instagram, where the man’s quick thinking and sense of humour became an instant hit.
The Scam Call
The video begins with a scammer, pretending to be from the Andheri East police station, demanding that the man show his face to prove his identity. The fraudster attempts to create a sense of urgency and authority, hoping to pressure the victim into complying.
Turning the Tables
Instead of following the scammer’s instructions, the man responds with an unexpected twist. He picks up his small puppy and holds it up to the camera. “Yeh lijiye, sir. Aagya main camera ke saamne,” (Here you go, sir. I’m here in front of the camera), he says, holding the puppy closer, as if the dog is the one being interrogated.

The scammer, clearly caught off guard by this response, begins to laugh awkwardly and quickly turns his face away from the camera. The man, amused by the situation, continues mocking the scammer, saying, “Arey yeh raha main. Arey, thanedaar. Dikhraha hai? Arey nakli vardi,” (Here I am. Hey, Officer. Can you see me? Oh, fake uniform).
The Scam Breaks Down
Flustered and realising he’s been pranked, the scammer abruptly ends the call, disconnecting the video in embarrassment. The video has gone viral, with many people praising the Mumbai man for his wit and creativity in dealing with digital scammers.
Rising Concern Over Digital Arrest Scams
This video comes at a time when digital arrest scams are becoming more common across India. In these scams, fraudsters impersonate law enforcement officials, often creating a false sense of panic by claiming the victim is involved in a criminal case. They then pressure the victim to make payments to avoid a fake arrest or investigation.
Just days before this incident, a Japanese man residing in Bengaluru was tricked into losing Rs 35.5 lakh after scammers posed as Mumbai police officers. The criminals falsely accused him of being involved in a money laundering case and convinced him to make payments under the guise of a “digital arrest.” Similarly, a Bengaluru techie lost Rs 11.8 crore in a similar scam involving fake police officers.
The Mumbai man’s clever prank highlights the growing issue of digital scams and serves as a reminder to always be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages from supposed law enforcement officers.
