This Company Forced Employees To Eat ‘Death Chillies’ As Punishment

In a shocking incident that has once again drawn attention to extreme workplace practices in China, a finance firm in Chengdu reportedly subjected its employees to a bizarre punishment for poor performance. In July 200, several staff members were ordered to consume “death chillies” as a form of discipline after failing to meet performance targets.

The spicy chillies, known for their intense heat, caused severe reactions in the employees, resulting in two female workers being hospitalised after consuming the peppers. This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the morality of such punishments in modern workplaces.

While this practice was not an ongoing tradition, it highlights the extreme measures sometimes employed in Chinese work cultures, where employees are pushed to the brink by unrealistic expectations. This particular case has left the public stunned, as it draws attention to the dangerous and dehumanising aspects of corporate environments. The episode serves as a reminder of the need for better workplace policies that prioritise the well-being of employees over harsh and inhumane practices.

Another Bizarre Practice In China’s Company

A company based in Guangzhou, mainland China, has garnered attention for enforcing some highly unusual workplace practices. Unlike typical office greetings such as “Hello” or “Good morning,” employees at this firm, known as ‘Qiming,’ were reportedly required to lie on the floor as a way of welcoming their boss.
