This Beautiful Village In Italy Is Paying Rs 92 Lakh And Offering A Free House To Settle Down

In an effort to revive its dwindling rural communities, the picturesque Trentino region in northern Italy has launched an enticing relocation program. The initiative offers a free house along with a financial grant of approximately ₹92 lakh to those willing to settle in one of its villages. However, the offer comes with a key condition—new residents must commit to living there for at least ten years.

Tackling Depopulation with a Bold Offer

Like many rural areas worldwide, Trentino’s villages have seen a sharp population decline, as younger generations migrate to urban centers in search of better opportunities. This has left many homes abandoned, pushing local authorities to implement drastic measures to attract new residents. While Italy has previously introduced €1 home schemes, this latest initiative offers an even greater financial boost.

According to a CNN report, the province of Trentino, also known as the Autonomous Province of Trento, is providing €100,000 (around ₹92.7 lakh) to individuals who choose to relocate. This grant is split into two parts—€80,000 (approximately ₹74.2 lakh) for home renovations and €20,000 (around ₹18.5 lakh) to help with purchasing a property.

Who Can Apply and What’s the Catch?

The scheme is open to both Italian citizens and expatriates, offering them a chance to experience life in the serene countryside. However, there is a crucial stipulation—applicants must reside in the purchased property for at least a decade. Leaving before this period would require them to repay the entire grant amount.

Reviving 33 Forgotten Villages

This ambitious initiative covers 33 villages across Trentino, all struggling with population decline. By offering financial incentives, the government hopes to restore vibrancy to these once-thriving communities. With stunning landscapes, a rich cultural heritage, and a slower pace of life, Trentino’s villages could soon attract individuals and families seeking a fresh start away from crowded cities.
