A YouTuber’s interview with Swiggy and Zomato delivery agents in Bengaluru has revealed surprising earnings data. Loveena Kamath, creator of the ‘Full Disclosure’ YouTube channel, interviewed two delivery agents in Bengaluru, uncovering that their earnings surpass those of the average IT engineer in India.
Kamath noted that an average IT engineer in India makes ₹20,000 per month. In contrast, the delivery agents she spoke with earn more than twice that amount. Shiva, a 22-year-old Swiggy delivery driver, makes between ₹40,000 and ₹50,000 monthly. His income includes a base pay of ₹20 per order, plus tips and incentives. “I get around ₹5,000 a month from tips,” Shiva revealed.

In the past six months, Shiva has saved ₹2 lakh, which he plans to invest in starting a business in his village. “I want to open a D-Mart. It will create employment opportunities for the people of my village,” he said in Hindi.
Kamath also interviewed Taiyappa, a Zomato delivery agent who has been working for three years and earns close to ₹40,000 a month. Sharing the videos on Instagram, Kamath highlighted: “It is 2024 and Food Delivery Partners are earning MORE THAN Software Engineers.” She clarified that while delivery partners earn significantly, they work 12 to 13 hours daily and typically view this work as a temporary measure rather than a career path.
Some users were impressed by the earnings, while others noted the demanding nature of the work compared to that of software engineers.
“But the pain of working like that is completely different from engineers,” commented one Instagram user.
Another added, “People don’t understand the engineer may start at 25-30k but eventually, he or she will see major growth in their package, whereas the delivery guy won’t… so let’s not compare.”
A third user shared, “I know a Zomato rider who made 70k in a month because he worked day and night non-stop. In fact, he made so much money that Zomato gifted him a laptop and an electric scooter.”
