Entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist Sudha Murty has embarked on a new chapter in her remarkable journey by becoming a member of the Rajya Sabha at the age of 74. Her son, Rohan Murty, founder of Soroco, expressed his admiration and pride for his mother on LinkedIn.

Sharing a photo of Sudha Murty, Rohan Murty praised her lifelong achievements, highlighting her roles as a computer science professor, author, philanthropist, mother, and wife. He celebrated her recent milestone, stating, “At 74, she’s starting a new career as a member of India’s upper house of parliament. Here she is on her first day!”

One LinkedIn user fondly remembered encountering Murty at the Indian Institute of Science, where she impressed with her unwavering commitment to late-night studying at the library. “Almost every night when I used to leave the library, I used to see a young, studious female student still sitting at the desk,” the user recalled.

A former employer of Murty also reflected on her early days at Tata Motors, highlighting her strong work ethic and outspoken personality. “She spoke her mind and showed a deep commitment to whatever she undertook!” he remarked proudly. Murty was part of the team that designed India’s first NC machine, showcasing her pioneering spirit.

Sudha Murty made headlines recently when she was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP on March 14, with her husband, Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, by her side. Her nomination to the Upper House of Parliament coincided with International Women’s Day, highlighting her significant contributions to society.

Murty, honored with prestigious awards such as the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, continues to inspire with her dedication to public service and social welfare initiatives. Her daughter, Akshata, is married to Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, adding to her family’s notable achievements on the global stage.
