Double medal winner at the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker, met Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi at her residence on Wednesday, just hours after returning to India and receiving a rousing welcome.
Bhaker, who won bronze medals in Women’s 10-meter Air Pistol and the 10-meter Air Pistol Mixed Team, arrived at 10 Janpath to meet Sonia Gandhi.
The meeting lasted over 30 minutes. According to Congress sources, Sonia Gandhi congratulated Bhaker on her performance at the Paris Olympics and for creating history.
Sources also mentioned that Bhaker is scheduled to meet the newly appointed Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Bhaker returned to the country on Wednesday after her historic achievement of winning two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games. She was greeted by hundreds of supporters and her family, who braved a steady drizzle to give her a memorable reception in New Delhi. The Air India flight (AI 142) from Paris to Delhi, which brought Bhaker back, landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 9:20 am, delayed by one hour.
