A shocking crime unfolded in West Tripura on Saturday, where a 62-year-old woman was tied to a tree and set on fire by her own sons and other family members. This horrific act took place in Khamarbari, located within the jurisdiction of the Champaknagar police station.
Upon receiving reports of a woman being burned, a police team quickly arrived at the scene. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kamal Krishna Koloi stated, “After receiving an input that a woman was set on fire, a police team rushed there and found the burnt body tied to a tree. We took the body to the hospital for post-mortem examination.” The discovery of the body confirmed the tragic nature of the crime.
Authorities suspect that a family dispute may have prompted this horrific act. The victim had been living with the support of her two sons after the death of her husband about a year and a half ago. While one son resided with her, the other lived in the state capital, Agartala.
In connection with this incident, the police have arrested both sons for their alleged roles in the crime. They are set to be presented in court on Monday, where the police will request remand for further interrogation. An official mentioned, “A family dispute may be the reason behind the incident,” indicating the possible motives behind this tragic act of violence.
