‘Smooth’ Mars Bar Leads To UK Man Getting Rs. 215 Compensation, Apology, Internet Fame

Harry Seager, a 32-year-old man from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, had a peculiar experience while enjoying a Mars bar, one of the UK’s most beloved chocolate treats. After unwrapping the bar, he noticed something unusual: it lacked the signature ripples that usually adorn the top of the chocolate. Intrigued by this, Seager shared a picture of the smooth bar in a Facebook group, sparking the curiosity of thousands of members from the Dull Men’s Club.

Seager had purchased the oddly smooth Mars bar from a service station in Oxfordshire while traveling to a classic car show in Birmingham. When he opened it, he was surprised to find the absence of the usual swirls. Wondering whether this was a manufacturing fluke or part of a design change, Seager decided to write to Mars Wrigley UK to inquire further.

Mars Wrigley responded with an apology and sent him a £2 voucher (approximately Rs. 215) as compensation. They also assured him that his feedback would be shared with their Quality Team. In their message, they said, “We’re sorry to hear about your experience. We’ll ensure your feedback is shared with our Quality Team. Please accept the enclosed £2 voucher for a future purchase.”

While Seager appreciated the gesture, he was more interested in learning the story behind the smooth bar. He shared with the BBC, “The only reason I emailed them was to understand what might have caused it. But they kept sidestepping that question.” He added that the company seemed “secretive” about the cause of the anomaly. Despite his curiosity not being satisfied, he was grateful for the £2 voucher. “It’s two free Mars bars! Maybe they could have sent more, but I am not ungrateful. It’s been quite the adventure over a chocolate bar,” he remarked.
