A Skater’s Passion for the Kumbh Mela
Ajay, a skating enthusiast, has always tried to travel by skating whenever possible. This time, he has taken his passion to new heights by setting out on a remarkable 600-kilometer trip to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Covering an average of 80-100 kilometers per day, Ajay rests each night at local hotels or lodges. Despite the challenges along the way, including poor road conditions that often force him to walk or catch a ride, he’s determined to complete his pilgrimage.
A Challenging Yet Fulfilling Journey
This marks Ajay’s longest journey yet, and it comes with its share of difficulties. He is carrying a 20-25 kg bag along with a saffron flag that waves as he skates. In the face of such an arduous trek, Ajay’s perseverance remains unshaken, motivated by the idea of making a pilgrimage to the sacred Kumbh Mela in a way that no one else has.

During his journey, Ajay has encountered numerous kind-hearted individuals who have offered him support in the form of financial help and meals. These gestures of goodwill have motivated him to keep going, pushing him further toward his destination.

He has previously undertaken skating trips to temples near Sakti, such as Turridham and Madwarani, covering distances between 50 to 100 kilometers. This journey to the Kumbh Mela, however, is truly a milestone in his unique pilgrimage.
The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, which draws devotees from all over the world, has already seen over 7 crore people participating in holy dips at the Triveni Sangam. The Uttar Pradesh government estimates that over 45 crore people will attend this year’s Mela, making it the largest religious gathering on Earth.
