With thousands of devotees flocking to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, roads leading to the holy city are witnessing severe congestion. The heavy traffic is not only affecting pilgrims but also causing major inconvenience to local commuters. Many travelers are experiencing long delays, with some reaching their destinations hours later than expected.
Wedding Procession Stuck in Traffic Gridlock
In a recent incident, journalist Rajesh Sahu reported that a wedding procession traveling to Prayagraj got stuck in a massive traffic jam. Out of 20 vehicles in the convoy, only two managed to make it to the venue, raising concerns about the fate of the wedding ceremony. It remains unclear whether the bride and groom were among those who made it through or if they were stranded in the congestion.

Highlighting the traffic chaos, Sahu shared his observations on social media, stating, “In Prayagraj, for those whose wedding is in the city, 20 vehicles set out for the procession, but only two reached the guest house while the remaining 18 got stuck in the jam.” He further added that many guests are reaching as late as 2 AM due to extreme congestion.
Social Media Reacts: ‘Shaadi Postponed?’
As news of the traffic crisis spread online, netizens speculated whether weddings were being delayed due to the gridlock. Joking about the situation, one user commented, “The procession is arriving without a band and horse, or in some cases, even getting postponed!”

Unprecedented Traffic Jams Leading to Chaos
Traffic congestion in and around Prayagraj has been an ongoing issue since the start of the religious gathering. Reports of jams extending up to 300 km have surfaced, with drone visuals capturing long vehicle queues stretching nearly 60 km in neighboring Madhya Pradesh.
With lakhs of devotees expected in the coming weeks, authorities are under pressure to ease traffic flow and ensure smoother movement for both pilgrims and residents.
