The Supreme Court has permitted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia to reinstate his podcast, The Ranveer Show, on specific conditions. The court asked Allahbadia to submit an undertaking that the podcast would maintain ‘morality and decency’ and be suitable for all viewers.
Allahbadia had been earlier restrained from broadcasting his podcasts following controversy regarding his offensive remarks on Samay Raina’s YouTube program. The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, accepted Allahbadia’s plea that the podcast is his only means of livelihood, with about 280 individuals relying on it. They also granted him further interim protection from arrest so that he has time to cooperate in an investigation in Guwahati.
The comments Allahbadia gave on India’s Got Latent created a controversy, prompting multiple FIRs. The incident is being investigated by both the Maharashtra Cyber and the Mumbai police. Allahbadia met the Maharashtra Cyber department, where he accepted that he made a wrong choice with his objectionable comments. He admitted to having made a poor choice of words, apologized for the episode, and explained that he visited Raina’s performance solely for his friend, saying he did not collect any fees for the appearance.
