For the first time since the pandemic, Pasadena, California, witnessed its largest gathering as thousands attended the 136th Rose Parade on January 1, 2025. The iconic event showcased vibrant floral floats, spirited marching bands, and majestic equestrian units, captivating audiences worldwide. Despite its success, the parade’s joy was slightly overshadowed by a tragic New Year’s incident in New Orleans, where a vehicle rammed into a crowd, leaving at least 15 dead and 30 injured.
The 8.85-kilometer-long parade drew global attention, with live broadcasts enhancing its reach. Dedicated volunteers, essential to the event’s execution, ensured the parade ran seamlessly. Traditionally, the spectacle is followed by the Rose Bowl game, hosted at Pasadena’s historic Rose Bowl Stadium.
The Legacy of the Rose Parade
Originally established by the Valley Hunt Club to showcase Southern California’s mild winters, the Rose Parade has evolved into a cultural phenomenon. It has been held almost every year since 1890, with NBC first broadcasting it on radio in 1927 and transitioning to television in 1954.

This Year’s Theme and Highlights
The 2025 theme, “Best Day Ever!” celebrated life’s most joyous moments. Parade President Ed Morales stated, “The theme honours unexpected joys, from life-changing experiences to simple pleasures etched into our memories.”
The parade featured floats sponsored by corporations and community organisations, marching bands, and equestrian units. This year’s judging panel, comprising Morgan Anderson, Bill Brzeski, and Drew Rios, assessed floats on design, floral creativity, and entertainment value.
Notable Participants
The event began with electrifying performances by singers Kiesza and Aloe Blacc atop Honda’s float, accompanied by a synchronised light show and pyrotechnics. A flyover by a B-2 bomber added grandeur to the festivities. Tennis legend Billie Jean King served as the grand marshal, waving to the crowd in a Rolls-Royce Phantom III, her red blazer symbolising celebration and resilience.
As a hallmark of New Year’s traditions, the Rose Parade continues to inspire with its blend of artistry, community spirit, and celebration.
