Roblox, popular platform for gaming and game creation is under the spotlight again. As of 2025, with over 85.3 million active users on a daily basis and 380 million active users monthly, Roblox is now looking to expand to a more mature audience.
In 2023, Roblox revealed its aim to reach users 17 years and above. One of it’s goals: Launching a dating feature!
However, due to a large underage base, the platform previously enforced strict probations to keep mature content out of younger users’ reach.
But, CEO of Roblox, David Baszucki said that he envisions a future where Roblox offers more grown-up experiences. “I think a lot of people who are too afraid to go on a real-life date might find it easier to have a virtual date to start,” he shared.
Safety Measure on Roblox
Roblox requires documented ID Verification to protect minors. The system automatically fetches identifiable data from the ID like address. However, players have found their ways around these systems.
For instance, kids use their parent’s ID to participate in a ‘Squid Game Recreation’ made by a fan which was restricted to players 17 years and older.
Roblox Current Stance on Dating
Right now, Roblox does not allow users to date on the platform, as per the community guidelines. However, this can change soon. The company might be exploring dating-related content to be available at the platform for users 21 and older.
An X user recently shared that the platform now allows UGC users (user-generated content) related to dating. Allegedly written by a Roblox staff, the post said: “Statements that are self-referential or referencing real-world relationships (e.g., ‘Sorry ladies, I’m autistic’ or ‘I <3 my boyfriend’) are generally not considered violations under our current policies unless they include inappropriate, offensive, or targeted language.”
The statement further added that the platform encourages community reporting to help catch missed violations.
Dating App or Virtual Social Space?
Roblox is not trying to become a dating app but is working towards becoming a safer zone for couples or those interested in virtual social experiences. According to Beszucki, the goal is to support relationships, not finding dates through virtual space.
As of now, the dating feature is not available or launched. Although, its potential introduction suggests that the platform is not just for kids but for people in all age groups.
