Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival of love and protection. Rach year on this auspicious day, sisters tie a ‘rakhi’ on their brother’s hand, praying for their long lives and health. The brothers pledge to protect them from all evil. This year, the festival comes with a rare celestial event that hasn’t occurred in 95 years. 

This year, Raksha Bandhan will fall on August 9, and the ideal time to tie the rakhi is between 5:21 AM and 1:24 PM.

Rare Celestial Combination After 95 Years 

In 2025, the festival arrives with a powerful astronomical alignment: Saubhagya Yog and Sarvartha Siddhi Yog will occur during the Sharavan Nakshatra, a very auspicious period. This is once in a lifetime event. 

Saubhagya Yog is known to be very lucky. It is filled with wealth and overall well-being. When rituals are performed under this yog, they benefit family and personal relationships as they are abundant in positivity.

Sarvartha Siddhi Yog fulfils the righteous goals. ‘Sarva-Artha’ means ‘to all purposes’ and ‘Siddhi’ means ‘success’. It is the perfect time to start something new, fresh and meaningful. This yog clears the obstacles, paving the way to growth and fulfilment. 

These yog falling during the Sharavan Nkshatra also amplify the energy. It is associated with strengthening relationships and enhancing spiritual consciousness. This alignment offers a powerful backdrop for celebrating the special festival of brothers and sisters.

Mythological Roots of Raksha Bandhan

A the name suggests, Raksha Bandhan means ‘protection’ and ‘bond’. It beautifully mirrors its core sentiment, the pledge to protect and care for loved ones. One of the most celebrated legends connected to this festival comes from the Mahabharata.

When Lord Krishna cut his finger while using the ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, Draupadi tore a piece of her clothing and tied it to his finger. In return, Krishna vowed to protect her, at all costs. 

He completed the vow when Draupadi was subjected to ‘Cheerharan’ and was humiliated by the ‘Kauravas’. Krishna appeared and saved her dignity.
