Recently, during a visit to Georgetown University and attending a diaspora event in Virginia, Lok Sabha’s Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi let out a rather close-to-the-heart secret about his public love life.
The Congress leader, interacting with students, said no one had told him “I love you” during his political life until recently. He thought about how before, meetings were curtailed to formal greetings whereas now, he even sees love blossom in the most unlikely of places, such as restaurants.
He ascribes the change to the openness he has increasingly allowed into his public engagements, termed: “I found displaying affection and using the word ‘love’ morphs how we confront politics.” He expressed that politicians do anger and hate, and on the other hand, love could be used for one of the powerful tools to build a positive vision for the future of India.
“We are creating a new politics in India, and this is the politics of love,” said Gandhi. This is a new thought process that he maintains is required to install hope and transformation in the youth and society in total.
