‘Pel Dunga Khade Khade’: Rapido Driver Insults Mumbai Techie Over Extra Charge

A Mumbai techie accused a Rapido driver of abusing and threatening her after she refused to pay an extra charge. Ohshin Bhat shared screenshots of the driver’s offensive messages on X, drawing attention to the incident.

Ohshin claims that she had booked a ride through Rapido under the ‘Economy’ category but was assigned a Premium vehicle. Economy rides, which are usually cheaper, use hatchbacks instead of the sedans offered in the Premium category. However, the driver, who had listed his cab in the Economy category to attract more bookings, demanded additional payment.

When Ohshin refused to pay the additional charge, the driver asked her to cancel the ride and resorted to abuses and threats. “Cancel kar do varna pel dunga khade khade (Cancel the ride, or I will beat you up),” he reportedly told her. He further abused her, calling her a “Bhikhari ki aulad (Child of a beggar).

As Ohshin declined to engage, his attitude became worse. “Saste me chahiye paidal ja (Walk if you want to save money), ” the driver said. Later the driver canceled the ride by himself. Ohshin finally booked an Uber ride from the place.

Rapido’s Response

Rapido apologized and assured an investigation into the incident. Their X account, Rapido Cares, said, “We completely understand how serious this matter is and sincerely apologize for the unprofessional behavior of the captain. As requested earlier, please share the ride details via DM so we can first work on actions against the captain and let you know of the development.”

Online Reactions And Past Incidents

The incident has caused huge outrage on social media. Many are shocked at the behavior of the driver. “What in the world is going on? Why every time it’s Rapido,” wrote one user. Another shared a similar experience, stating, “Haha, I had a similar incident, but the chat was by the Rapido customer service team!”

In the past, Rapido has been criticized for incidents involving its drivers. Users have accused the platform of employing ill-behaved captains. HT.com has reached out to Rapido for further comments and will update the story upon receiving a response.
