Peak Boys Hostel Moment: IIT Dhanbad Students Launch Dustbin with Diwali Rocket

As the lively festival of Diwali wraps up, many people experience a wave of nostalgia for home, filled with laughter, the delightful aroma of treats, and the warm glow of lights. For those celebrating away from their families, the festival can feel different, often colored by memories of joyfully bursting crackers with loved ones.

Celebrating Diwali in a distant place can be bittersweet. While some find comfort in local festivities, many long for the authentic spirit of the holiday that comes from being with family. This longing can inspire creative celebrations, such as a humorous incident that recently went viral on social media.

A Hilarious Diwali Experiment

A video shared on Instagram features a group of engineering students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dhanbad celebrating Diwali in an “Elon Musk” fashion. The students set off a firecracker and cover it with a plastic dustbin. Viewers are left in suspense as the dustbin sits still, but with a loud “boom,” it launches spectacularly into the sky, reaching the height of their four-storey boys’ hostel, prompting cheers from fellow students below.

The clip, posted by the Instagram account @cis_tales, has gone viral, amassing over six million likes and a staggering 103 million views.
