Two sacks, thousands of coins, and a husband with a plan this was what surprised a jeweler in Kanpur recently. The man had brought his yearlong savings, all in coins, to buy a gold chain for his wife as a surprise.
According to the Dainik Bhaskar report, the curious sight unfolded inside a small jewelry shop in Ahirwan Raja Market when the man placed two heavy sacks on the counter and began to open them. The next scene left the jeweler speechless. These coins added up to more than Rs 1 lakh.

Most of them, he said, pay with Rs 10 coins. Instead of getting those coins exchanged for notes, Abhishek started saving them with a goal in mind.
The report states that Abhishek had married a year ago, and since then he had been thinking of gifting something special to his wife. So, he started saving up in order to buy her a gold chain.
Recently, when his wife went back to her parents' place, Abhishek thought that was the perfect opportunity to realize this plan of his.
On Saturday, November 1, Abhishek reached jeweler Mahesh Verma’s shop carrying two sacks. Verma, who also heads a local traders’ association, said at first he couldn’t understand what was happening.
’I was shocked initially when he (Abhishek) put the bag on the counter and said that it had coins worth more than Rs 1 lakh.’’ Mahesh said, as quoted by Deccan Herald. Counting revealed that Abhishek had brought 5290 Rs 20 coins, which amount to Rs 1.05 lakh.
The chain Abhishek wanted was worth Rs 1.25 lakh, but the jeweler had told him he could get the rest of the amount in installments. Counting and bundling the coins took more than two hours for the two of them before Verma accepted the payment and confirmed the order.
"The chain will be ready in a few days," he said. Abhishek said he had never imagined being able to buy a gold chain, especially with gold prices rising so high.
“I’ll present it to her when she returns from her parents’ house,” he added.
