Old Sneakers and ‘DPS Green Tie’: Vir Das’ Unique Look at International Emmys

Vir Das became the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards in New York. Reflecting on the experience, he kept it brief on Instagram Stories, saying, “It went well.” Later, he shared more details about the event and his wardrobe.

A Unique Wardrobe with a Personal Touch

Vir Das shared pictures on Instagram showcasing moments from the red carpet, his hosting on stage, and his preparation behind the scenes. He captioned, “A first-ever Indian hosted the International Emmys @iemmys. Stupid chap wore his old sneakers because he was very nervous. He was Wearing @salookalife by a brand-new young designer @thegirlwhostitched out of Delhi. He was styled by Stylist @shreejarajgopal who went through MANY emails to find the right designer to launch. He wore Jewels @hanut101 and wanted green to remind him of a DPS green tie.”

His outfit was designed by Shubhangi Bajpai, an emerging talent from Delhi. In September, Vir had invited budding designers to create his look for the Emmys and stayed true to his promise. Adding a personal touch, he wore his old white sneakers for comfort and a green gemstone locket that reminded him of his school tie from Delhi Public School, Noida.

Sharp Humor on the Global Stage

Vir’s wit shone during the ceremony. In a shared clip, he referenced the Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars incident with a playful comment. “Who does Will Smith have to slap tonight for us to get some eyeballs? I’m kidding. We’re foreigners, you can’t slap foreigners with anything (else) but with sanctions. Sorry, tariffs,” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience.
