A video from Sonipat, Haryana, has gone viral showing factory workers throwing boxes of Soan Papdi outside their workplace. The incident took place at a manufacturing unit in Gannaur, where employees were reportedly upset after receiving only sweet boxes instead of their expected Diwali bonuses.
Every year, many companies in India offer their employees Diwali bonuses or gifts. However, this time, workers at the Gannaur factory were shocked when they received only boxes of Soan Papdi as their festive token. According to reports, the gesture did not go down well with the employees, who felt disrespected and disappointed.
The workers claimed they had been struggling with delayed wages and rising prices, which made their festival even tougher. The sweet box, meant to bring joy, instead became a symbol of frustration.
In a video that quickly spread on social media, factory workers were seen throwing the Soan Papdi boxes at the factory gate. Their chants of protest echoed as the sweets scattered across the ground.
Authorities later confirmed that no property was damaged during the incident, and the protest remained peaceful. Factory supervisors reportedly said that the sweets were given as a gesture of goodwill for Diwali.
The video triggered a heated debate online. Many social media users sympathized with the workers, saying they had a right to be upset. Others felt that wasting food was wrong and that the sweets could have been donated to the needy.
A user said, “Agar isliye fainki kyoki diwali bonus ni dia, to sahi kia.” But, he said that if the employees threw away the Soan Papdi box because it wasn't a different kind of sweet, then the workers don't deserve anything.
Soan papdi lovers flooded the comment section and said, “Soan papdi actually tasty hoti hai.”
Another user wrote, “Actually, soan papdi is really a good desi sweet. However, it somehow became a controversial sweet. And people count it as cheap and sweet. But see at people, who cannot afford soan papdi also. If you don't like it, give it to the poor. But don't throw like this.”
Several users echoed the same thought, saying, “Raste mein kitne saarey juggi jhopdi milti hai ... Unko he de dete! Aisey fekna thik nahi .. aram se bhi rakh sakte the .. akhir ann hai.”
One user also commented, “It's just stupid to throw food to the floor, no matter what. At least just reject them, or leave it in some higher-up's office or something.”
