Nearly a year following his statement on “leasing” Giza’s Great Pyramids for a one-of-a-kind project, YouTube sensation MrBeast published a 21-minute video recapping his 100-hour trip through the ancient pyramids. MrBeast investigated off-limits locations including the mysterious Tomb of Osiris in the video and even stashed $10,000 of gold inside the Sphinx—a building thought to contain a hidden gold temple.
Starting in King Khafre’s chamber, where the remains of the pharaoh were supposed to have been placed, MrBeast embarked on the excursion. From there, he went to the sunken Tomb of Osiris, which has been affected by changing topography and raising water levels. The team came back to their base camp having failed to reveal the hidden secrets of the tomb notwithstanding efforts to probe more into it. After, they went into the Sphinx, at which MrBeast left a handwritten note and buried gold.
Together with well-known Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass and MrBeast’s crew explored sites normally off limits to the public in the illegal Iymery burial. Hawass also exposed skeletal remains from ancient times and places only experts are authorized to visit.
The group found a secret chamber that just 50 people have entered in the last 500 years in the video’s last moments. To their shock, the chamber had many bats. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism responded to outcry over MrBeast’s declaration of “renting” the pyramids by stating that he did not personally finance the opportunity. Alternatively, he was given unique permission to produce a set of brief movies about the archaeological site that the government sanctioned to advance awareness of the ancient site.
Viewers have since lauded it as one of MrBeast’s most thrilling episodes yet; the video is now all over the place.
