In this Christmas season, a lovely video of some women devotees of the Mukkattukara church, Thrissur, Kerala has gone viral. The video catches a group of women devotees adorably draping a saree around the Mother Mary statue. They draped it very carefully by wearing a beautiful yellow-coloured saree, getting the statue ready to adorn in the worship area.
The video starts with shots of the peaceful church environment, wherein one can see people in prayer. At the same time, a woman prepares the pallu of the saree for Mother Mary. Another woman is preparing the pleats with much dedication and care. After this was done, two young boys would assist in placing the idol on a raised platform before the main altar. The devotees completed their transformation by adorning the statue with a stunning dark blue and golden crown and putting a holy Rosary in its hands.
This heart-warming video has gained a huge number of over 3.6 million views and lakhs of likes on Instagram. Netizens are glued to this creative and respectful act, with many saluting the devotion and the unique cultural touch it reflects. This beautiful gesture speaks for the faith of the devotees as well as for coming together of tradition and spirituality in Kerala.
