The Maha Kumbh Mela, known for being the largest religious gathering in the world, has drawn over 1.6 crore devotees to its sacred grounds. While the event showcases a variety of spiritual figures, from Naga Babas to esteemed religious leaders, it’s an unexpected figure – Abhay Singh, also known as IITian Baba or Masani Gorakh – who has captured the public’s attention.
Abhay Singh, a former aerospace engineering student from IIT Bombay, surprised many when he decided to leave behind his promising career in science to embrace spirituality. He now dedicates his life to Lord Shiva under the name Masani Gorakh, although he also goes by other names like Raghav and Jagdish. Abhay’s journey from science to spirituality is a powerful story of self-discovery and devotion.
After studying at IIT Bombay, Abhay pursued a Masters in Design and explored several career paths, including photography and coaching physics students. However, his quest for deeper meaning led him to philosophy courses on topics like Post-Modernism, Socrates, and Plato. Ultimately, he decided to embrace spirituality, leaving behind the material world to focus on the mind and mental health.
“I understand now that real knowledge comes from spirituality,” he explained, speaking about his transformation. “To understand the mind, you must go within.”
The interaction between Abhay Singh and the CNN-News18 crew quickly went viral, with social media users praising his choice to pursue spiritual knowledge over financial success. Many followers lauded him for his authenticity, with some commenting, “Even after understanding the universe, the void is the same – that is Shiva, the eternal truth. He is an example of this.”
His story highlights the power of spiritual understanding and mental clarity, with many viewers expressing admiration for his personal growth and decision to abandon conventional paths in search of higher truth.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, taking place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, is not only significant for its scale but also for the rare celestial alignments that seers say are occurring after 144 years. The event continues to attract millions of devotees who come to take a holy dip and seek divine blessings. On the first day alone, over 1.65 crore pilgrims immersed themselves in the sacred waters, making it a remarkable occasion in India’s spiritual landscape.
Abhay Singh’s journey and transformation at the Maha Kumbh Mela serve as a reminder of the diverse paths to self-realization and the power of spiritual awakening.
