A 52-year-old man employed with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suffered serious injuries after two men one of them his neighbor allegedly attacked him with a metal rod near South Delhi’s Sarita Vihar on Friday. Police said the accused suspected that the man had tipped off authorities about an illegal construction at his plot, which was demolished a month ago.
One of the accused, Mohit alias Poli, has been traced, and a case has been filed. Both the accused are yet to be arrested. Mohit and the victim, Raghuraj Singh, live in Aali village. Singh is a multi-tasking staff (MTS) member in an MCD school.
In the meantime, a 21-second video of the said attack went viral on social media early on Saturday morning, in which a man sitting on the roadside attempts to protect himself from being attacked by a man wielding a metal rod. A helmet-wearing woman is seen stepping in to rescue the victim while the aggressor threatens her with the rod as well.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said that on Friday at 1.04pm, the Sarita Vihar police station got a report about an assault victim from a hospital in the vicinity.
Singh reported to police that on Friday around noon he was driving to the office, and when he was near Aali Extension along Mathura Road, Mohit and another man came on a motorcycle. They intercepted his car, allegedly making him stop it.
After that, they smashed the windshield of the car, pulled him out of the car, and beat him up with a metal rod. The victim received severe injuries on his legs and was hospitalized by his friends and relatives, the DCP added.
