MBA Graduate Reveals Struggles with Zomato’s Low-Paying Job Offer: ‘Barely Enough for Basic Expenses’

The problem of low wages and increasing living expenses in urban regions has become a significant issue. Job hunters have consistently pointed out that pay is inadequate to manage essential costs, leaving many in financial distress. Recently, an MBA graduate posted an elaborate message on LinkedIn regarding what he termed a “disheartening” experience after obtaining a job offer from Zomato in Gurugram. The individual conveyed his disappointment concerning the offered salary, which he regarded as inadequate, along with a lack of relocation assistance. His post ignited considerable online debate, with numerous individuals discussing the harsh truths of corporate existence.

In his post, the user stated, “I recently received an offer for an Associate role at Zomato. While I was eager to embark on a new path, the experience left me both heartbroken and frustrated. From the beginning, the salary proposed was barely sufficient to meet basic living costs in Gurgaon. When I attempted to negotiate, the feedback was dismissive – ‘Take it or leave it. ’ This mindset pained me profoundly, particularly since I was moving from another city, abandoning my comfort zone and support network. ”

He then provided a summary of his necessary monthly expenses, which encompassed rent for modest PGs in Gurugram (ranging from Rs 14,000 to Rs 20,000), food (at a minimum of Rs 5000), electricity (Rs 2000), and travel (approximately Rs 4000). After settling these expenses, he pointed out that he would only have Rs 1,000-Rs 2,000 left, prompting the question, “How does one manage to survive, let alone save or progress, in such circumstances? ”

The individual accepted the position with the expectation of receiving relocation support, but he was merely given initial hotel accommodations. He also alleged that the organization declined to assist with a security deposit for a rental property. In conclusion, he urged employers to treat job seekers with greater respect, reminding them, “without motivated employees, businesses cannot thrive. ”

His post struck a chord with many, one of whom remarked, “Thank you for sharing your experience so honestly. It’s heartbreaking to see how many talented individuals encounter such obstacles in the corporate arena. Your call for fairness and respect resonates deeply, not only for job seekers but for anyone striving to establish a sustainable career. ” However, others warned that airing such grievances on social media might adversely affect his future job opportunities.
