Man Attempts To Attack Minister Giriraj Singh At Public Event In Bihar

A man attempted to punch Union Minister Giriraj Singh during a public event in Begusarai, Bihar, earlier today. The incident took place while Mr. Singh was holding a Janata Darbar in his home constituency, approximately 125 kilometers from Patna, the state capital. As the 71-year-old minister was concluding the event, the man suddenly grabbed the microphone and tried to strike him. However, party workers and security personnel quickly intervened, protecting the outspoken leader.

“When I was leaving the event, the man forcefully took the mic and behaved as if he was going to attack me. He started chanting ‘Murdabad’ slogans. I am not afraid of such attacks,” said Mr. Singh, who is in charge of the textiles portfolio, in a video message.

“I am Giriraj Singh and I will always speak and fight for the interests of the society. Giriraj Singh is not afraid of such things. We will continue to raise our voice against whoever wants to spoil communal harmony,” he further stated.

The BJP leader also remarked that if the assailant had been armed with a revolver, he might have killed him.

“If this man had a revolver in his hand, he would have killed me the way he attacked me. However, his attack failed. He used very abusive language. No matter how many terror mongers come, it will not affect me,” Mr. Singh was quoted as saying by ANI.

Mr. Singh added that the man was not behaving appropriately.

“The people gathered there overpowered him, and he was later handed over to the police,” the minister said.

Begusarai Superintendent of Police Maneesh confirmed to PTI, “The person is in police custody. We are investigating the matter.”

In a separate incident in June, actor-politician Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at the Chandigarh airport over “disrespecting farmers.” Ms. Ranaut, who won the Lok Sabha election from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, was about to board a flight to Delhi when the altercation occurred.

CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur was subsequently suspended, and an FIR was filed against her. She was then transferred to a reserve battalion of CISF in Bengaluru.
