A violent altercation between two vendors at Dawat-e-Ramzan exhibition, which was hosted by tennis ace Sania Mirza’s sister Anam Mirza, turned ugly when a man allegedly fired two shots in the air. The fight happened on Saturday, March 29, at King’s Palace in Hyderabad.

The Inspector of Gudimalkapur police station said that the altercation first occurred between the owners of a perfume stall and a toy stall at the expo. “A scuffle erupted at an exhibition Dawat-e-Ramzan between a perfume stall and a toy stall owner, and it was settled. Meanwhile, he (accused Hassebuddin) unnecessarily fired two rounds in the air with his licensed pistol,” the inspector said, according to a report by ANI.

Police acted quickly, arresting the suspect, Hassebuddin alias Hyder, and recovering the gun that was used to shoot. What was peculiar, the authorities pointed out, was that Hyder had no link with either of the shopkeepers who were in the fight. A former Sarpanch and a resident of AC Guards Paramount Colony, Hyder held a licensed gun from Nampally. A case has been filed under the Arms Act, and investigations are on to identify his motive.

Hyderabad is famous for organizing many exhibitions and food festivals during Ramzan, and among the most famous is Anam Mirza’s Dawat-e-Ramzan. According to Free Press Journal, the expo had more than 400 retail stalls and 60 food brands, which recorded a footfall of over 250,000 visitors in 11 days. It also generated employment for over 3,000 individuals for the holy month.

Anam Mirza, as per her Instagram bio, is a fashion curator since 2012 and has her own YouTube channel. In addition to Dawat-e-Ramzan, she also manages the District Bazaar expo, adding to the shopping and cultural life of Hyderabad.
