Lalit Patidar, who is just 18 years old and hails from Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, has officially secured the Guinness World Record for the hairiest face on a man. Born with hypertrichosis, better referred to as ‘werewolf syndrome’, Lalit has been living with excessive facial and body hair since childhood.
Diagnosed With ‘Werewolf Syndrome’ at Six
Lalit was diagnosed with hypertrichosis when he was six years old. This is a rare condition that causes excessive growth of fine hair, sometimes up to 5 cm long, on different parts of the body because of Werewolf Syndrome. His odd looks made him the subject of ridicule and bullying in his childhood, with some people even cruelly referring to him as ‘monkey boy’.
Despite these difficulties, Lalit has opted to accept his natural look. “I like the way I am, and I don’t want to change my appearance,” he said to Guinness World Records. He also remembered his school days, saying, “The first day at school wasn’t so good because the other children were frightened of me, but when they got to know me, they realised I’m not so different from them.”
Officially Measured on Italian TV Show
Lalit recently visited Milan, Italy, where he was featured on the TV show ‘Lo Show dei Record’. A trichologist officially measured his facial hair density at 201.72 hairs per square cm. This earned him a place in the Guinness World Records as the Hairiest Face on a Person (Male).
A Moment of Pride
Speaking of his joy at the recognition, Lalit stated, “I am speechless. I don’t know what to say because I am very happy to get this recognition.”
Though he used to be discriminated against and bullied, Lalit now finds that most people are kind to him. “It’s now very rare that people are not treating me well. Most people are good to me. It depends on the person,” he explained.
Lalit’s story is a heartwarming testament to self-acceptance and determination. He has turned what others perceived as a weakness into a point of pride. Demonstrating that accepting one’s individuality can result in extraordinary acclaim on an international platform.
