An emotional video of a man from Uttar Pradesh declaring that he was detained against his will went viral on social media, which compelled the Indian embassy to take cognizance and initiate a search for him.

The film comes at a time when Saudi Arabia has made the decision to abolish the long-established Kafala system of having foreign workers whose visas are held by the employer. Critics had equated the system with slavery.

What Dubai Man Appeals to PM Modi

In the video, uploaded by a lawyer based in Delhi, the man, using the Bhojpuri language, states that his passport was being held back by a person named Kapil, perhaps his employer, and makes an appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene. India Today was unable to verify the video’s authenticity.

Delhi Lawyer Reaction Over the Viral Dubai Video

“External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, please take cognizance immediately. A Handia, Pratappur resident in Prayagraj is stuck in Saudi Arabia,” the lawyer tweeted with the video. In the video, the man looks visibly upset and is heard weeping. A camel can be seen in the background as the man records the video.

Indian National Seeks Urgent Assistance from Authorities

My village is in Allahabad. I went to Saudi Arabia. Kapil has my passport. I’ve told him that I need to go home, but he’s saying that he’ll kill me,” the man says, quivering.

In a heart-wrenching appeal, he requests that the video be published as widely as possible so that it reaches PM Modi. He also wishes to see his mother.

Share this video; share it so much that, with your support from India, I can get assistance and return to India. If you belong to Muslim, Hindu, or any other religion brother, if you are anywhere please assist.

Please assist me; I will perish. I have to go to my mother. Share this video so much that it should reach up to the Prime Minister,” the man adds.
