A woman in Gonda has allegedly threatened to chop off her husband’s body parts and store them in a drum, resembling a recent gruesome murder in Meerut. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Police confirmed receiving complaints from both parties on Saturday and assured that action would be taken after a thorough investigation.
Junior Engineer (JE) Dharmendra Kushwaha, originally from Jhansi and currently employed at Jal Nigam in Gonda, accused his wife, Maya Maurya, and her lover, Neeraj Maurya, of assaulting and threatening him with murder.
Kushwaha stated that he and Maya had a love marriage in 2016. Following the birth of their daughter, he purchased three four-wheelers in her name and continued paying the installments. In 2022, he also bought land in Maya’s name and entrusted the construction contract to her relative, Neeraj Maurya. During this period, Maya and Neeraj reportedly grew closer, particularly after Neeraj lost his wife to COVID-19.
Kushwaha claimed he caught Maya and Neeraj in a compromising situation on July 7, 2024. When he protested, they allegedly assaulted him, leading Maya to leave the house. Later, on August 25, 2024, Maya reportedly returned with Neeraj, broke the lock, and took 15 grams of gold jewelry and cash before leaving again. Kushwaha filed a complaint regarding the incident on September 1, 2024.
On March 29, 2025, Maya allegedly threatened to kill Kushwaha’s mother. When he intervened, she and Neeraj allegedly assaulted both him and his mother. According to Kushwaha’s complaint, Maya warned, “If you say too much, I will get you chopped and packed in a drum like the Meerut massacre.”
However, Maya refuted the allegations, claiming that Kushwaha had been harassing her and forced her to undergo four abortions. In her complaint, she stated that he assaulted her in July 2024, after which she filed a report at the women’s police station. She further alleged that he initiated divorce proceedings and forced her out of their home.
Kotwali Police Station SHO Vivek Trivedi confirmed ongoing legal disputes between the couple and stated that police have launched an investigation. “We are reviewing CCTV footage related to the recent incident,” he added.
