The recent videos posted on social media by Bronwin Aurora, a Toronto influencer, have caused an outbreak of controversy after she posted herself dancing beside her 85-year-old boyfriend who was in a hospital bed. The insensitivity with which she has been taking her content has caused, instead of applauding, much criticism of its appropriateness.
A now-viral video that began with a post on X, formerly Twitter, captioned “Western liberal society is so damn cooked, man. This is not a great thing to aspire to,” Aurora wore black jeans and a tan top as she did a brief dance in celebration of her being included in her boyfriend‘s will.
On TikTok, the influencer captioned the video, “Guys, I got on the will, should I pull the plug?” The tone of the caption and the setting led to outrage, with most deeming it disrespectful for the serious circumstances.
The video received widespread backlash across platforms. Users on X voiced their disapproval:
“This is the worst thing I have seen all year, I have no words,”commented one user.
Another quipped, “That poor guy. Typical liberal, she only cares about getting money.”
A third observed with sarcasm, “Doesn’t she know bro can just call his lawyer?”
Aurora’s usually mixed reaction joke to age-gap relationships finallyreached some people’s lines.
Aurora regularly posts Instagram reels where she and her elderly boyfriend feature often, countering much of the hate speech with humour. At one time, she posted a video captioned, “He’s old enough to be your grandpa,” that elicited equal parts amusement and judgment.
However, the hospital bed video hit a nerve, as many termed it “insensitive” and “inappropriate.”
The controversial video has received over 1.5 lakh views and anavalanche of comments, many of which criticise the influencer for exploiting a serious situation for attention.
While Aurora and her boyfriend have previously dismissed criticism with a joke, this incident raises questions about the boundaries of content creation and respect for personal circumstances.
